Occasionally we will plan a litter and things may not work out as planned, you may notice that sires may change or the breeding is removed because the female did not take. I update as often as possible! Please come back and visit as breedings progress.
All puppies are sold microchipped or tattooed, vet checked, vaccinated with DHPP, dewormed and will be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. I also provide a comprehensive guarantee re: health and temperment. All our companion puppies are $850.00 to $1,000.00 unless otherwise stated. We welcome prospective new parents to come out and meet our dogs and to visit their new baby, occasionally, as he/she grows.
Initially all companion puppies are sold with a requirement to spay and neuter. That requirement can be lifted by us if we feel that your dog has grown into quality required to be shown and/or bred. We do, offer show/breeding potential dogs/puppies to interested parties. The cost is dependent on age etc. We do offer a comprehensive warranty for health and disqualifying faults on show/breeding quality dogs. We also offer a "warrantee" that the dog will be show quality but we will not evaluate for ring worthiness until the dog is full-grown at age 2. CHECK OUT MY ARTICLE ON "WHAT IS A SHOWDOG"
We no longer offer breeding/show dogs on a coownership nor do we co-breed litters. We also do not offer our females out on a lease.
Please take a few minutes and check out the babies we have or are expecting within the next several months.
We also have added a section at the bottom of this page announcing litters available from other breeders who have used "Hellwigg" dogs.
Our pholosophy on breeding/producing German Shepherd Dogs. (how we decide who gets bred to who and how our puppies are raised) We believe that making the decision about who to breed together starts well before conception. Not only is it important to choose breeding dogs that are beautiful, great movers and winners it is equally important to choose parents and bloodlines with brains, natural instincts, strong "proper" temperment, desire to please, independent thinking, long living bloodlines and health. Not only do the parents have to be that but a large percentage of the siblings, grand parents, great grandparents and so on. This is not something you can see in a dog from ringside or even inside the ring nor is it something you can see in the performance ring. You see this as they interact in their natural environment and out & about in the community.
We also believe that puppies should be raised in a household (not seperate from the rest of the household). Free time running around the house (although it is significantly more work due to the poop/pee factor hahahahahahaha) to stimulate the brain and provide cognitive opportunities for growth. I also believe that 8 + weeks is the optimum time to go to their new families with mom staying involved with them the whole time. I bring my girls in as the "house dog" 3 weeks prior to due date and they stay in until their milk dries up. My puppies run free through the house several times a day interacting with our cats, their mom, our male house dog, and any others that are in the house. It is at this time that mom and the other dogs in the house play with them (we have toys all over our floors). They also get time out in our large puppy pen when we are home at least several hours a day (when it is not winter or raining) and if the weather is good they run loose with us while we sit outside or work outside so they have the opportunity to be free of fence and to respond to verbal cues to keep in close proximity to their humans.
I also provide at least one social opportunity/outing other than the vets. We do a road trip to trusted friends or the stud dog owner. They run free in a fenced in area and we watch and note interactions to strangers and strange items in the environment.
Everything we do with our puppies is positive, no yelling, no scolding, no rough handling. We protect them from scary occurrences and provide positive reinforcement for desired behaviour. At the same time we play with them...rolling them around, cradleing them in our arms on their back, making normal loud noises and even some abnormal, put scary looking toys that make noises on the floor, put strange items outside by their run and move it around and so on.
For the time that the babies are with us and able to interact with the environment our lives rotate around them and their needs. Yes it is hard work but loved work
We screen our potential owners carefully providing comprehensive tips and education. We remain in contact with the owners from the first day they are home and make sure that they understand that we are here, approachable, easily contacted and that we care about every little thing. We stipulate in our contract that puppies must be socialized, attend training opportunities and they MUST be taken out and about in the community . We provide a small lesson on normal developmental stages and what to do when the puppy goes through them. We talk about how much a dog's brain developes with training and the more they do the better the dog they have.
